Boston,
MA – For centuries, the Principality of Monaco has been a center
for the arts. From Picasso to Colette, countless world-renowned artists
have at some point called it home and found inspiration in its fabled
Mediterranean backdrop. As dedicated patrons of the arts, the Princes
of Monaco have created a haven where talented musicians, writers,
dancers and painters can let their creativity run free. Claude Gauthier, Monaco’s own self-taught artist, will welcome spring to Boston with an open invitation to discover his fascinating and colorful world: Vibrant Impressions of the Principality of Monaco and Colorful Sceneries of France will feature 20 of his paintings (all but one will be for sale) on view at The French Library and Cultural Center / Alliance Française of Boston and Cambridge from April 2 through May 2, 2005. With scenes from Monte-Carlo to the French Riviera and Provence, Gauthier’s naïve art style and luminous paintbrush convey all the splendor and radiance of his subjects. In a note congratulating Claude Gauthier on his exhibition, His Serene Highness Prince Albert of Monaco encourages the American public to “come in large numbers to discover and appreciate the naïve genre and colorful style of this talented Monégasque artist and let the vibrant colors of his palette transport them momentarily to the Principality”. This
exhibit was made possible by the generous support of Boston-based
developer, John E. Drew, President and Founder of The Drew Company
and President and CEO of the World Trade Center Boston and Seaport
Hotel. In his capacity of Honorary Consul of Monaco in Boston, Mr.
Drew will be hosting, together with the French Library/Alliance Française,
an exclusive VIP opening reception on April 6th. Joining Mr. Drew
will be Dr. Hélène Day, former Consul of Monaco in Boston
and determined initiator of this exhibit. The artist will be on hand
to guide the privileged guests through this pictorial journey.
