2nd Edition of Weeklong Fête Brings the Glamour and Sparkle of the Principality of Monaco to New York City


NEW YORK - APRIL 15, 2004 – New Yorkers will once again experience the fairytale glamour of the Principality of Monaco, May 17-25, 2004 as Monaco Takes New York takes over Manhattan. This weeklong series of celebrations showcases the very best that the Principality has to offer.

Highlights of the second edition of Monaco Takes New York cultural celebrations include a Monégasque culinary week at reputed gastronomic establishments, an outdoor vintage racecar exhibit, special shopping offers and a fundraiser cocktail at the world renowned Cirque du Soleil.

The Bright Flavors of the Mediterranean Riviera…

Select New York restaurants Le Cirque 2000, Django, Payard, Morrell’s Wine Bar & Café, Aix and Remy will treat New York epicures to Monégasque culinary delights with special lunch and/or lounge menus throughout the week.

Exhibit Commemorates one of the World’s Greatest Sporting Events…

The spirit of the Monaco Grand Prix comes alive in the courtyard of the New York Palace Hotel where collector’s racecars illustrating the sportsmanship tradition of Monaco will be on display for all to enjoy. The brand new MINI S MC40 (Monte-Carlo), commemorating the 40th anniversary of the MINI’s win of the 1964 Monte Carlo Ralley will also be on show.

Select Manhattan boutiques Bernardaud and Aaron Basha are offering special sweepstakes and gifts with purchase and will have themed Monaco Takes New York windows on display. Bernardaud will also be offering special children’s art workshops.

Exclusive Fundraiser Gala…

The Principality of Monaco will be partnering with the Cirque du Soleil and Town & Country on May 25th for a fundraising cocktail and silent auction during this spring’s performance of Alegría - the magical circus troupe’s latest show. Proceeds will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Variety – The Children’s Charity.

Royalty Meets Royalty…

As Monaco honors its longstanding ties with Russia’s imperial past, Edward Kasinec, curator and chief of the Baltic, Slavic Division at The New York Public Library will give a special lecture guiding New Yorkers through some of Monaco’s illustrious cultural heritage including the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, the Opera de Monte-Carlo and the Hotel Hermitage, all of which exemplify the profound cultural synergy between Monaco and Russia. The champagne cocktail and lecture will be held on May 24, 2004, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Condé Nast Building.
