NEW YORK - His Serene Highness Prince Rainier, His family and the people of the Principality of Monaco are joining the rest of the world in expressing sincere sympathy and solidarity with the United States and the American people in the aftermath of the terrible events of September 11. As a symbol of its affection and deep concern during a terrible moment in America’s history, the Government of the Principality of Monaco has announced that the General Treasury will collect donations from the Monégasque people, its residents and businesses to support the families of firemen, policemen and rescue workers killed or missing following the destruction of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

United with the local Monaco efforts is the Princess Grace Foundation-USA, whose mission is to support performing artists in America. The New York-based foundation will donate 50% of the net proceeds of their upcoming October 22nd New York awards gala to September 11th relief organizations aimed at the children of those lost in the attacks.

Through the legacy and sweet remembrance of American-born Princess Grace, the Principality of Monaco has for many decades enjoyed long-lasting and intimate ties with the United States and its people. For over forty years, the Principality has had representative offices in New York City and has collaborated with the United States on numerous business and charitable endeavors, humanitarian causes and cultural exchanges. In addition, Monaco enjoys the reputation as one of America’s beloved tourist destinations.

“The Monégasque people and the large American community in Monaco have been devastated by the tragic events of September 11 and would like to demonstrate their support and solidarity with the United States of America in the wake of the tragic events that have befallen our dear and close ally. While we know that we cannot heal the pain of all those who lost loved ones, these gifts from Monaco, we hope, will aid the families of the true heroes-those who rushed to help,” said Maguy Maccario-Doyle, Consul General of The Principality of Monaco in New York.

Donations collected by the General Treasury in Monaco will be forwarded through the Consulate General for distribution to appropriate agencies and relief organizations.
