3RD LAUREUS WORLD SPORTS AWARDS
TO BE HELD IN MONACO MAY 12-14

Nominees announced in New York City on March 19

MONACO - The 3rd Annual "Laureus World Sports Awards", founded by DaimlerChrysler and Richemont, will once more be held in Monaco at the new Grimaldi Forum Monaco May 12-14, 2002.
The awards, which are designed to recognize sporting excellence across the globe, are held annually to honor the world's best sportsmen and women for their achievements across all disciplines. The Laureus are awarded in a variety of categories, with the topmost honor being World Sportsman and World Sportswoman of the Year. The Laureus Sports Awards also celebrate the role that sport itself can play in promoting international goodwill.
The awards ceremony will be televised globally and invited guests will include the world's superior athletes as well as international celebrities.
To ensure that recipients of the Laureus are veritably the best in the world, DaimlerChrysler and Richemont have founded the World Sports Academy comprised of distinguished athletes who have all attained legendary status through their athletic performances and sporting careers. The Academy will ultimately decide on the winners of the Laureus World Sports Awards.

But before the star-studded festivities begin in Monaco, celebrities and sport stars will be on hand in New York City on March 19, 2002, as the Laureus Sports Academy announces this year’s nominees.
