MONACO NAMES TELEVISION PRODUCER DICK WOLF TO HONORARY CONSUL POSITION IN LOS ANGELES Principality of Monaco Establishes U.S. Cultural and Business Relationships with Honorary Consul Appointments |
MONACO -- Monaco, long renowned as one of Europes most fascinating and glamorous countries, with a rich history of cultural contributions throughout the world, is continuing its strong ties to the United States with the appointment of Dick Wolf as an Honorary Consul. Wolf, one of televisions most respected drama series producers/creators and Emmy-Award winning producer of NBCs "Law & Order," was named to the position by His Serene Highness, Prince Rainier III. A 25-year veteran of the film and television industry, he will serve as a liaison between The Principality of Monaco and the city of Los Angeles with a special focus on the film and television community. Wolfs jurisdiction includes Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Southern California and Utah. "We are very proud to welcome Mr. Wolf as an Honorary Consul to Monaco," said Maguy Maccario-Doyle, General Consul to Monaco in New York. "His expertise and knowledge of the film and television industries are recognized throughout the world. California is the second most active state for tourism to Monaco and Los Angeles is the entertainment capital of the world, so we would like to develop this relationship further." The Honorary Consul positions are being established to create synergistic initiatives between the United States and The Principality within the cultural, economic, business and political arenas. Monaco is currently reviewing additional opportunities to form relationships with other American heads of industry, thus establishing liaisons in more major American cities such as Chicago, Miami and Atlanta. Wolf will serve as Honorary Consul to Monaco for three years. During that time, he will play an active role in cultural exchange activities and the development of the entertainment industries in both Monaco and Los Angeles. Wolf will focus his efforts on the prestigious Monte-Carlo Television Festival, a major event for the world of television, scheduled this year for February 19-24, 1999. He also has accepted to serve as President on the jury of the Festivals first "European Producers Award." Along with creating "Law & Order," Wolf served as creator/executive producer of the award winning and critically acclaimed urban drama series "New York Undercover" which ran for four successful seasons on Fox Television Network. Other television credits include the recent NBC telefilm "Exiled," the prestigious NBC series "Hill Street Blues," for which he earned both Emmy and Writers Guild nominations, and the trend-setting NBC series "Miami Vice." Wolf is a recipient of the Anit-Dafamation Leagues 1997 Distinguished Entertainment Industry Award, the 1997 Leadership and Inspiration Award from the Entertainment Industries Council, the 1997 Achievement Award from the Caucus for Producers, Writers and Directors, and the 1995 Governors Award by the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. He also recently received the 1998 Television Showman of the Year Award from the Publicists Guild of America. Wolf resides in Los Angeles with his wife and three children. |
